Career

I’ve built a long-standing career in translation, bringing decades of experience to the field. After beginning my journey as a Project Manager at a well-known agency, I co-founded ALM Translations with Rachel Coleman in 2002, and have been helping the company grow ever since. In 2025, I took over ALM as sole CEO.

The industry has changed enormously during that time and that evolution is one of the things that continues to interest me most.

Role

As CEO, my role is increasingly focused on the future direction of ALM. I work closely with our senior team across technology, operations, marketing and finance, with a particular interest in how AI, automation and new technology can improve the way multilingual content is managed.

I enjoy coming up with ideas and challenging how we currently do things, although I am very happy to leave the technical execution to people who know considerably more about it than I do!

Achievements to date

Building a business that has continued to adapt and evolve for more than 20 years is something I am particularly proud of. During that time, ALM has navigated recessions, a pandemic and significant technological change within the translation industry.

Taking full ownership of ALM in 2025 was a major personal and professional milestone. It was daunting, but it also gave me renewed focus and the opportunity to think differently about where we take the business next.

For me, one of the biggest lessons has been that experience is valuable, but so is being prepared to change your thinking, learn and adapt.

What your role brings to the business

We have specialists across ALM with expertise that is very different from my own. My role is not to have all the answers, but to bring experience, commercial perspective and sometimes a different point of view.

I want to challenge ideas constructively, encourage innovation and make sure we continue adapting to what our clients actually need.

A major part of that is ALM’s evolution from a traditional translation company into a technology-enabled multilingual content partner. We are developing new ways of combining AI, automation and translation technology with specialist human expertise and clear governance, particularly for organisations working in regulated and technical industries.

What you enjoy outside of work

I have a busy life with my two children, two dogs and many friends! I enjoy walking, nice restaurants, watching my son play rugby, working out and watching the odd film when I have the time!
