Supporting GS Yuasa with Multilingual E-Learning Localisation Across Europe

GS Yuasa is one of the world’s leading battery manufacturers, supplying battery technology and energy storage solutions across international markets, including automotive aftersales. When the organisation launched the GS Yuasa Academy, a multilingual online training platform for technicians, distributors and colleges, it required a localisation partner capable of managing website localisation, technical content translation and large-scale multilingual video production.

What challenges did GS Yuasa UK face?

When GS Yuasa needed to localise e-learning assets for its battery training programme, the team turned to ALM Translations for a complete end-to-end e-learning localisation solution.

The project involved website localisation, training material translation, and the adaptation of 126 dynamic videos into four European languages: German, Spanish, Italian, and Swedish.

A further challenge was to allow in-country teams to easily review, edit, and approve translated content. Managing complex technical content (copy, images, and video) across multiple teams required a collaborative, cloud-based translation workflow — something GS Yuasa had not implemented before. ALM Translations needed to design and demonstrate a system that could handle technical complexity while coordinating large multilingual teams efficiently.

How did ALM Translations meet the GS Yuasa UK challenges?

To address these needs, ALM Translations developed a detailed localisation project plan covering all deliverables, from technical document translation to video voiceover localisation.

For the 126 videos, ALM managed both on-screen text translation and voiceover production, delivering fully localised .mp4 files for each language. This included integrating translated animations, graphics, and captions to ensure visual consistency and linguistic accuracy.

Previously, GS Yuasa had relied on agencies that only handled translations, leaving the internal team to manage technical production. With ALM acting as a full-service translation partner, GS Yuasa UK received finished, ready-to-use materials for immediate upload to their e-learning platform, reducing project time and internal workload significantly.

How did ALM Translations process the different elements of the e-learning course?

Supporting materials for the training course

Training was provided to all GS Yuasa UK in-country reviewers and a tailored workflow was created to allow each of the two reviewers in each country to approve the translations in a cloud-based translation system. Assets were logically split into small batches for translation. This enabled the client sign-off in Memsource (our Translation Management System) to happen in manageable chunks and support an effective feedback loop. This also meant that in-country reviewers were not overwhelmed with the workload and were able to perform their usual daily jobs.

Video content (voiceovers & on-screen text)

The video localisation process was multi-layered. ALM Translations transcribed, translated, and labelled each script and text element, then sourced and recorded professional native voiceover artists (male and female for each language).

Each in-country office approved voice samples before recording began, ensuring linguistic and cultural accuracy.

When GS Yuasa later expanded the project to include additional videos, ALM efficiently handled the updates, keeping every voiceover translation synchronised and maintaining consistent brand tone.

Online platform website content

Collaboration with GS Yuasa’s web development team ensured a seamless website localisation process. ALM delivered pseudo-translations of .XLIFF source files to test integrations, allowing developers to check for formatting and encoding issues before final translation.

ALM’s file engineering specialists protected all non-translatable backend content, ensuring no unnecessary edits or cost increases.

This combination of technical expertise and proactive communication guaranteed a smooth and efficient rollout across all localised websites.

What were the project benefits for GS Yuasa?

By localising their e-learning content into four major European languages, GS Yuasa expanded access to training for thousands of trade customers, distributors, and technicians across Europe.

This comprehensive multilingual training platform improved service levels, enhanced brand awareness, and standardised GS Yuasa’s training offering across EU markets.

Subsequent projects now benefit from translation memory systems that store approved translations – improving reviewer efficiency, reducing turnaround times, and lowering costs.

Today, ALM Translations continues to support GS Yuasa across its UK, French and Swedish operations, providing multilingual marketing content, technical communication and localisation services aligned with its international growth strategy.
