Translation goes largely uncelebrated, but it is a hugely important part of everyday life; it allows us to negotiate on a global level; without it, peace deals would be tricky to negotiate, global trade would be impossible and great books like War and Peace and the Bible would be out of reach to most of us.

Translation is one of the world’s oldest professions and is so vital to our existence that it deserves recognition. Everyone should spare a couple of minutes to think about what life would be like if translators and interpreters didn’t exist.

Since 1953, this art has had its own special day, 30th September, which is also the feast day of St Jerome – the patron saint of translation.

Today, ALM would like to thank its numerous hard working, diligent, professional translators who help to keep businesses running around the world and enable important negotiations to take place with a view to making our world a better place.
