Sonia Soldevila – one of our Project Managers – has been shortlisted for the Translation Project Manager of the Year award by the Association of Translation Companies.
So, what makes Sonia a great candidate for this award?
Who to put forward when so many people have a great range of skills and talents? Choosing a translation project manager to nominate for the ATC Project Manager of the Year award was a tough one for us with our current team as they all have their strengths and every single team member is committed and works hard. So, the management team put their heads together and decided that Sonia Soldevila, one of our Agency Team Translation Project Managers, stood out for many different reasons.
First off, Sonia has all of the attributes we look for in a PM (calm under pressure, dedicated, methodical, meticulous), but what sets her apart is her determination to acquire as much knowledge about her clients as possible. She takes time to build relationships with individual clients and to get to know their specific requirements. She is also a team player and is first to offer help to colleagues if they are overloaded with work.
Sonia is one of our quieter PMs, though she does have a great sense of humour – just as well with the banter that gets thrown around in the PM departments! She just quietly gets on with things but her results are tangible and work comes before play for Sonia.
In our opinion, adaptability is key to becoming a senior member of staff at ALM. Sonia is adaptable to change, always rises to the challenge – in fact, she relishes a challenge and is eager to gain a more senior position within the business.
Sonia joined us as a Project Coordinator but within 6 months, we promoted her to Project Manager (6-12 months earlier than our usual newly qualified starters) as she was able to gain project knowledge in super-quick time and proactively worked to improve project processes. It was the right time and Sonia is continuing to shine.
Her latest achievement is moving into ALM’s Large Projects Department, in which she looks after our larger and more complex projects.
One example is organising and managing a 200,000-word Corsican-English project in 5 weeks using a bespoke CAT tool, which is no mean feat! In the Large Projects department, she works as an account manager from one of our largest clients because of the relationship she has built with the various contacts.
The client has confirmed that they are delighted to be working with Sonia and that we are meeting their expectations and are also looking at ways in which we can help them fulfil their needs and adapt to their requirements at all times.
All in all, we are delighted that she chose a career with us and we are working hard to ensure that we offer her opportunities that are in line with her skills and dedication. This is something we extend to all of our staff.
Being an efficient project manager requires mastery of specific skills. These skills include multitasking on different fronts while managing all accounts you are responsible for.
