Brexit and the translation industry

Thanks to guidance and training sessions provided by the ATC (Association of Translation Companies) and information from our local Chamber of Commerce, we decided to carry out a Brexit round table lunch meeting to see how Brexit and the translation industry will work after 31st October.

Employing several EU employees and doing business in several EU countries, ALM owes it to its staff and clients to ensure that we are prepared as we can be for life after 31st October.

Although we don’t have a crystal ball, we wanted to give our staff some reassurance.

We got everyone together over a buffet lunch to discuss their concerns. The presentation also profiled what we’re doing as a company to ensure we’re as prepared as possible for all Brexit scenarios.

Uncertainty

We wanted to let people know that although we can’t give definite answers to many of their questions, we’re doing everything we can to prepare for the future.

We opened up the discussion to the whole room after the presentation.

Pain points or opportunities?

Discussions included trading with EU countries/EU trading with the UK, pre-settled and settled status, recruiting new staff in the future and dealing with potential currency fluctuations.

We were also asked if we thought there would be any opportunities for a company like ours in the early days. We also considered the possible impact on our clients and how that may affect us.

To finish off the talk and to put a positive slant on discussions, we showed everyone the latest industry report from the ATC in liaison with Nimdzi which showed that ALM Translations is currently the 18th biggest translation company in the UK, out of a total of 1600 companies. You can view this report here.

Oh, and lunch went down very well too and Lisa Williams is definitely not asleep!
